This is the first book I have read by Nicole Baart, but it will not be the last. I was absorbed by the story by the middle of the first chapter and finished the book in a single sitting. Ardi and Harper enjoyed a deep friendship from almost their first meeting at an Iowa college. How many wonderful memories that relationship evoked. The twosome grew to a group of five inseparable young people who, like many such college friends, vowed to forever stay together.

Then came the secrets and lies, which tore Ardi's and Harper's friendship to shreds. Nicole Baart cleverly divulged bits and pieces of their past, leaving this reader more and more curious to learn the full story. When Ardi and Harper reunited after five years, the events of the past nipped at their heels until the denouement, which was deliciously stunning.

I loved every aspect of The Beautiful Daughters. The plot was one of my favorites - deep and abiding friendship between two women. The writing was almost flawless, and the characters exquisitely developed. Highly recommend!

I loved this book and the story of the two girls who considered each other as a sister. There are lots of trials and tribulations, as in real life. This story reminds us that no one is perfect.

The only thing that really bugged me in this book is the lack of capitalization in a lot of the book. The proper names wouldn't be capitalized or even the "i" when speaking of themselves. That was very distracting to me and I wish a proof reader would have been more diligent. Perhaps it had something to do with putting it in format. I intended to give it less stars but then realized that didn't have anything to do with the story, just an editing problem. But still, I feel that it is important that books be edited properly.
The Beautiful Daughters by Nicole Baart is a compelling novel about two best friends, Adri and Harper who parted ways after a tragedy in college. Filled with guilt, neither of the women believes they deserve happiness and it’s only when they’re called home and forced to return to the one place they vowed never to come back to, that they find a way to face their pasts and each other.

Baart digs deep into her characters, peeling the layers off one by one as the story builds momentum. The reader feels every gut-wrenching emotion Adri and Harper experience as they acknowledge that the past has sent them down different paths with their own set of consequences and challenges. Adri and Harper are sympathetic characters you can’t help but root for as they grow, learn to forgive, let go and move on.

Baart’s beautiful descriptions and imagery add a layer of richness to the story that makes this a novel stick with you long after you read the last page.
